Caris Diagnostics Announces New Chief Medical Officer and Expanded Clinical Team

Irving, TX - August 25, 2006: Caris Diagnostics, previously Pathology Partners, today announced that it has recruited the distinguished Richard H. Lash, M.D., as its Chief Medical Officer, as well as three other industry-leading pathologists: Guy M. Lindberg, M.D., M. H. Saboorian, M.D. and James M. Gulizia, M.D., PhD. These pathologists have joined Caris Pathology, which is the new entity formed as a result of Caris Diagnostics’ integration of Metroplex Pathology Associates this summer.

As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Richard Lash is responsible for leading the Caris Pathology team, comprised of 18 specialized pathologists who provide subspecialty pathology consultations to clinicians seeking the expertise of Caris Diagnostics for their patients. Previously, Dr. Lash was Co-Director of the AmeriPath Institute of Gastrointestinal Pathology and Digestive Diseases and Associate Clinical Professor of Pathology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, both in Cleveland, OH. He earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan, completed his residency training at The Cleveland Clinic, and is Board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.

“In an effort to unify the clinical culture of our organization, Caris Diagnostics completed a transaction to bring Metroplex Pathology Associates under the Caris Diagnostics umbrella. Concurrently, we searched for and found a renowned leader in GI pathology, Dr. Richard Lash, who will accelerate the introduction of fresh, innovative and rigorous clinical ideas into our practice as its new director,” said Gail Marcus, Chief Executive Officer of Caris Diagnostics.

Joining Dr. Lash’s clinical team are three prominent pathologists, Drs. Saboorian, Lindberg, and Gulizia. Dr. Saboorian, board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Cytopathology, has been a Professor of Pathology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center where he had held the positions of Director of Breast pathology and Co-Director of the Tissue Bank. Previously, he practiced pathology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center and Memorial City Hospital in Houston, TX. Dr. Saboorian completed his Pathology residency at the University of Cincinnati and received his fellowship in Surgical Pathology from the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Lindberg, also board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Cytopathology, has been an Associate Professor of Pathology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He completed his residency and fellowship in Surgical Pathology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Gulizia is board-certified in Anatomic Pathology with fellowship training in Gastrointestinal Pathology and Hematopathology. He joins Caris Pathology from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where we was a faculty member, Pathology Residency Program Director and Medical School Curriculum Director. Dr. Gulizia is also a past President of the Nebraska Association of Pathologists. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Molecular Virology at the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry in Germany and residency and fellowship training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School, in Boston, MA.
